The Nation's Capital has been accustomed to it's team being among the best in the league and this year is no different, judging by the first quarter of the season, your Senators sit 4th overall in a tie with Tampa Bay with 11 wins and only 3 loses in 17 games. Netminder Jeremy Swaymen who was put on the trade block at the start of the season as been playing like a Vezina candidate and is among the top Goalies in the league. Defenseman Adam Fox who was resigned long term to a 4 year contract as made an immediate impact with already 21 points and a +11 in 17 games. The biggest surprise is another player who was put on the trade block that no GM decided to inquire about, Tim Stutzle, who playing 3rd line minutes and PP time, is leading the team with 24 points in 17 games. Newly acquired Mark Scheifele as also made a huge impact with the team. GM Bell has put forth a well balanced team with a top 6 forward and top 4 D core to rival any team in the league.
GM Bell as been actively shopping the services of young G Sam Ersson, who at only 25 will be RFA at the end of his 2 years contract (due to his birthday date) and also with one last NHL rerate. A young D is what we are looking for, someone to compliment the top 4, or a farm player with good PO close to being ready for the pro squad. There is no urgency in moving him, but for a team on the rebuild side without a viable G, Ersson could be the answer.
