Las Vegas, NV - After trading for Leon Draisaitl, the Las Vegas Golden Knights were up against the salary cap. They also did not have much depth with little wiggle room to spare. In came 4 new players from the waiver wire who should help bolster the Vegas squad this season while the stars do most of the heavy lifting:
Scott Laughton
Laughton comes over from the Champion Florida Panthers and is probably the most valuable of all waiver claims made by GM Tom Jervis. Laughton is a solid checking player who could potentially play on any line. Early in camp has even seen him playing with Draisaitl and Konecny on the Vegas top line to balance things out. Laughton also seems primed to be on one of the Vegas PK units.
Trevor Moore
After being passed around a few times by teams and then finally waived by Colorado, Vegas decided to take a shot on the likely bottom 6 forward. Moore brings all around skill and above-average skating that could see him play with a myriad of players. Camp reporters have seen him anywhere between the 2nd and 4th line.
Alex Lyon
The career journeyman goaltender finds himself in Vegas after a stint with the Nashville Predators. Lyon figures to be the main backup to Shesterkin for now but the GM will keep looking for potential upgrades. Reporters don't expect Lyon to play anymore than the absolute minimum number of games. Lyon was picked up because he was simply better than any other internal option that Vegas had, and he was cheap. A perfect combination for the situation that Vegas currently finds itself.
Jack Studnicka
The once promising prospect that was Jack Studnicka has faded some over the years, but he comes to Vegas with plenty of opportunity. GM Tom Jervis hopes that Studnicka can be a stabilizing force on the 4th line due to his checking ability and believes there still may be some untapped potential there. With Vegas possibly entering a rebuild period after this season, Studnicka could find himself with even more opportunity in the years to come with the Knights.
