1 vs 8 - Success should be rewarded in the form of results, the top 8 teams should not only make the playoffs but also the 4 best teams who earned home ice actually get it.
Divisional alignment- the only reason this format was introduced in reality by the NHL is for geographical rivalries and cutting travel costs both of which are completely irrelevant here.
