Vegas Golden Knights and Anaheim Ducks like this
Post by San Jose Sharks on Sept 8, 2024 16:02:02 GMT -6
Okay, I'll start by saying that myself and everyone else is aware that the OV stat isn't the be all and end all by any margin. It's a VERY rough indicator of someone's talent and can be skewed easily depending on the formula used to generate it.
As such everything below should be taken with a pinch of salt...
20 Man Roster Overall:
If we go by pure depth of numbers, the Dallas Stars have the best team in the league, followed by the Los Angeles Kings and Chicago Blackhawks. Interesting, I personally have Dallas down as a wildcard contender rather than a sure thing. That could mean I know absolutely f all, or it could hint that this probably isn't the best indicator to use. This is because with most teams the percentage of playing time is usually assigned heavily towards the top lines with the fringe players having very little impact overall.
1. Dallas Stars -76.5
2. Los Angeles Kings -76.4
3. Chicago Blackhawks -76.2
4. San Jose Sharks -76

31. Toronto Maple Leafs -72.4
32. Columbus Blue Jackets -71.4
Top 6 Overall (Forwards):
In theory this one should correlate to who puts up the most goals. Again I don't think it's a great indicator as it can be skewed easily by just one player (see McDavid and San Jose as the lead example), but it's probably more indicative than the depth one as these guys are leaned on for top minutes and the powerplay.
1. San Jose Sharks -83.3

Starting Goalies:
Goalies, like in real life, are a bit of a dark art in the sim and the numbers don't always add up to what you expect. I find OV is especially useless for them vs skaters as well.
1. Detroit Red Wings -91

Combined Top 6 Forwards and Top 4 Defenseman:
I think this one will be the most accurate indicator of how good a team is. Again, OV is just a rough guide, but then so is this. Goalies were left out of the combined result as their OV is a crock of shit generally.
