Biggest news in Denver has been the appointment of Peter Laviolette.
Avs' upper management took their time on deciding what to do regarding Martin St. Louis.
Apparently Avs offered St. Louis another one year contract, but St. Louis insisted on multi year deal instead.
And after few weeks of intense talks, both parties decided to pursue different routes.
Surprisingly Laviolette appeared on UFA market, and Avs contacted him immediately and after short talks multi year deal of 4 years was announced.
We tried to contact Laviolette for a short interview, but he kept the call very short and said "No time for this bs!!!".
Well maybe one day he will have some time for his fans....
Draft went by the plan according to Avs' scouting department.
Denver did not have huge amount of picks to use, so the plan was to take the best player possible, regardless of the playing position.
At the end Avs drafted Michael Hage, C in the first round and Henry Mews, D in the second round.
Both of these prospects are considered to have a ton of upside, but realistically both are few years away from Pro rinks.
Trading has been limited to few minor moves, most of those ones were done with San Jose Sharks.
As for example selling Highmore, Cash and prospect Sami Helenius for Valeri Nichuskin.
Trying to bolster the bottom lines in Pro roster has been high on priority list.
Yesterday though Avs fans got quite a shock news as fans' favourite Makström was dealt with top prospect Thomas Bordeleau and two mid/low picks for Jordan "not so good" Binnington with 50% retention.
Most probably Avs' office has received some negative calls and emails from the fans about this trade.
GM Kalmi limited to comment with following : "We felt Binnington can offer more security between the pipes than Markström. I wish all the best for Markström.".
