The last time we talked, the Bruins had claimed it would be a quiet uneventful offseason. Only a couple of late draft picks to their name and having walked away from a number of players, including their number one goalie.
My, my, my, how things changed quickly for GM Davidson.
Davidson lept into action, seemingly from nowhere and moved out a couple of bad contracts and created cap space and draft equity.
Magically, the B's ended up in the early 3rd round and also again in the 4th round after a series of moves and we thrilled to land Jacob Battaglia in round 3 and Javon Moore in round 4. Battaglia is a player thr Bruins GM has been following for months and is very excited to have him in the system, while Moore is also a player with potential.
So now, Davidson was active in the draft, AND more importantly, cleared a substantial amount of bad cap out.
The hunt for a goalie seemed endless, but Davidson circled back to Ullmark, who was excellent all year in Boston and amongst the top goalies in the PFHL.
Now that the number one goalie issue was solved, the Bruins also lacked a scoring winger. The perfect candidate was identified and after a lengthy negotiation, Nino Neidereitter was inked to a long term deal. "Nino just ticks off all the boxes as a Bruin. He not only has great scoring, but is an excellent two way player. He has very high checking ability, strength and fighting, and lower discipline.....everything that encompasses being a Bruin."
The Bruins will be potent again next year on offense, once again has that excellent D and goaltending, but the lower half of the lineup will feature more speed and youth than the past season. Gone is Kuraly, Goodrow, Reilly Smith and Anders Lee. Younger, faster and better checking players will fill those bottom line positions next year as Maltsev, Dauphin, Barabanov, Olivier and Balcers will get the first look at the pro squad.
Boston should be an exciting team once again. I'll leave you with one more nugget.....
They ain't done yet.....something LARGE is getting very close involving a MAJOR prospect. It could collapse, but Boston isn't fully happy in one area of the team.
Until next time,
Meric "Schmerick" Wolfman out!
