As the hockey year winds down, we catch up with the Arizona Coyotes for what seems to be the last time, as the end of year press conference is being held from the back of a moving van.
The Shane Doan award for top forward is awarded to : Both Dylan Larkin and Vladimir Tarasenko! Both players had a good season with 90 and 92 points respectively. Larkin had 37 goals, and Tarasenko had 36. Each player looked slightly miffed as they both received only half of the trophy.
The Teppo Numminen award for top defenseman is awarded to : Logan Stanley! With 15 goals, 10 on the powerplay and 54 points, Stanley led the D core in points, and the team in penalty minutes and hits. Not exactly the type of player that Numminen was known as, but hey, what can you do.
The Mike Smith award for top goaltender is awarded to : Karel Vejmelka! The rookie goaltender led the team 24 wins and a 3.32 GAA for the season. Coming out of virtually nowhere, the tender led the Coyotes to their highest win total in their 3 year PFHL existence.
The Teemu Selanne award for top rookie is awarded to : Janis Moser! The Swiss defensemen joined the PFHL this season, earning a job in training camp and playing all 82 games with a respectable 42 points and an even plus minus, while playing a team high 21.74 minutes per game.
The Michael Bunting award for top farm forward is awarded to Matias Maccelli! The Finnish-American forward played 78 games, and led the Roadrunners with 104 points, in his first season in the PFHL. Originally a 4th round pick, Maccelli has had a encouraging start to his PFHL career, and is almost certainly going to be looked to contribute on the pro roster next season.
The Kyle Capobianco award for top farm defenseman is award to Derek Forbort! After spending the past 2 seasons playing on the Winnipeg Jets, Forbort found himself victim of declining skills and too large of a contract. Forbort was traded with cash to the Coyotes organization, and spent the year on the Roadrunners, contributing 75 points in his 76 games in Tuscan. He was dependable in all situations, leading the team with 23.82 minutes per game.
The Ivan Prosvetov award for top farm goaltender is awarded to Ivan Prosvetov! A lifelong Roadrunner, Prosvetov led the team in games played, and wins. When given the award with his own name on it, he looked confused, but gave a thumbs up afterwards.
When asked for comments about rumours the team had been sold, the owner pointed to the Utah plates on the moving van and simply winked.
