In a surprising move this week, James Houghton was appointed the new GM of the Dallas Stars of the recently formed PFHL. The move left everyone puzzled and perplexed at the decision around the league.
GM Houghton has a proven track record of Perennial playoff failures from his years in the PHL, at one point in time he made it to the Western Conference Finals 6 years in a row and compiled a 1-5 record in the process and fell short in his only Finals appearance.
Vegas GM, Tom Jervis who initially reached out to Houghton to be a GM in the new league had this to say, "The new league needed a couple more GMs to fill out the final positions and they were both in the west. Houghton and I go way back to the original days of the PHL so I reached out to him." He continued, "It really was an easy decision to ask him, because I've had a tremendous amount of playoff success against him over the years and if we happen to meet here in the playoffs it should be a pretty easy playoff victory."
When asking the ownership group about the newly appointed GM they gave a frank and pointed answer, "We are the Dallas Stars. We know that everything is bigger and better in Texas. But too much of a good thing can have its consequences, which is why we brought in the GM that we did. We already have Stars in our team's name, so there was no need to name a Star as our new GM. Plus, we’ve been mediocre for years, this GM fits that tag nicely."
When asked about being appointed the new GM of the Stars, the new GM said, "I'm really looking forward to this new opportunity, to build a team from the ground up, it's an exciting time. There will be some new challenges to navigate for sure, especially that thing called a 'salary cap' but I can assure you, that wont stand in the way of a successful playoff loss." Jim stated.
"I certainly have my hands full coming into a new league with a ton of experience, but I doubt anyone has as much experience as losing in the playoffs as me. I will clearly use that to my advantage" he continued.
With the Dispersal Draft just hours away and with the Stars holding the 6th pick, there will need to be some big decisions made in short order to determine the future "success" of this Stars team.
Word out in space is that GM Jim Houghton will be making another BIG announcement before the start of the draft. Stay tuned.
