I have been to a lot of press conference in my time as a beat writer. Most days I can start writing a coach or GMs quote before they open their mouth. It's a lot of canned, pre-approved by the PR department, words that have little actual substance. Today's press conference with new Arizona Coyotes GM Hayden Maag was...different. Instead of analyzing it, I'm just going to show you the transcript.
Coyotes PR Staff Member: Good afternoon everyone. Welcome to the second press availability with our General Manager Hayden Maag. First question is from Jose Romero from the Arizona Republic
Romero: Hayden, this is only your second press conference...why the long gap between media availability.
Maag: Quite frankly I didn't even want to do this one...but then the Commissioner told me he would pay me 4 million dollars and well...we have bills to pay.
Coyotes PR Staff Member: Craig Morgan from PHNX
Morgan: Hayden can you talk about Carey Price's play this year. You seem to be working him pretty hard...
Maag: I'm paying a goalie 10.5 million dollars a year...I'm going to get my money's worth. He also picks up my dry cleaning and details my car on off days...Are we good?
At this point in the press conference Maag looked over at his PR staff member who looked perplexed to say the least and got up to leave.
Maag: Ok thanks guys, I have to get back to my day job. I have to go take care of a guy with an Ivermectin overdose. Fucking Joe Rogan...
