Anaheim Ducks General Manager Travis Felts was on his way out to scout the Victoria Royals, yet again, when he was interrupted by Paul Bisonnette (aka Biz Nasty), famed Spittin’ Chiclets podcaster, TNT studio analyst, Arizona Coyotes radio colour commentator, and who apparently managed to play 200+ games in the NHL. Felts gave Biz Nasty a quick interview before leaving to “let loose with the boys”.
Biz Nasty: So how do you feel taking over the Ducks, where you are in the standings right now, with Getzy being gone it must be difficult to find new leadership in the locker room and a sense of identity, a team needs role players, who do think fits those roles, and what about young stud Cumtazz?
Felts: Whoa, there was a lot there. I feel comfortable as the GM of the Ducks and satisfied with the team’s performance so far. We expecte…
Biz Nasty: Can you elaborate on Cumtazz’s performance, and what level do you think it should be?
Felts: It’s Comtois, first off. And he is doing great, as well as I hoped in the NHL, providing secondary scoring without being a defensive liability, and he lit up the AHL when he started the season in the minors, but the big club needs him more right now.
Biz Nasty: Oh fuck, Comtois, never get that right.
Felts: Yeah, anyways. The leadership group Staal, Stone, and Theodore are performing well, carrying the team to wins at times and providing solid performances night in and night out. We would love to have Getzlaf in the lineup but in this unique circumstance of the PFHL we got to build our team from the ground up, focusing on a collection of players in their youth, guys entering their prime, and some veteran studs. We are young, but we are in the games every night.
Biz Nasty: That’s interesting, would you say you are close to being a contender?
Felts: Not without a lot of luck this season. We expected to be a bubble playoff team, and we are right there a quarter of the way through the season. No point to buy, no point to sell. If we get in, great. If not, we have a chance at the lottery or at least a mid-first round pick.
Biz Nasty: Is there any disappointing players on your team? I know goals have been hard to come by at times, and Brady Tkachuk could be producing more.
Felts: True, we could always use more goals and numbers from Tkachuk, but the eye test seems good. He is shooting at 6.38% right now, so you’d expect that to jump up by season's end. I’ll let the analytics department keep looking at ways to improve, but for now I’m not fazed by what is happening.
Biz Nasty: Any trades in the works?
Felts: Nah, the prices are too high. If we were close to going for the cup or needing a rebuild I’d be more active, but we are in a great spot for our inaugural season in the PFHL. Young guns are going to keep getting better and we’ll have a bunch of guys in their prime ready to contend for years.
Biz Nasty: Thanks for you time Feltsy, have a few wobbly pops for me.
Felts: No problem, cheers.
