It's been a disappointing season so far for the Bruins. After a very solid preseason more was expected. But in the regular season you can't play the Canucks EVERY night. Toiling around .500 most of the year and having the 2nd worst goals per game in the PFHL has made victories tough to come by.
It's not all bad in Boston however as team defence, goals against, and shots against per game have been amongst the top of the league. Tuukka Rask has been exceptional in net and the group of McAvoy, Nurse, Weber, Klingberg, Stone and Jones is the envy of the league.
Recognizing the lack of offensive punch, Davidson made an early move bringing Josh Anderson who boasts an offensive flair and a physical presence. He was placed up top quite Seguin and Hall for most of his games and the results were extremely poor. Reilly Smith who has carried the offensive load up front was moved in place of Hall and again little return from that line.
Nichushkin who also was given a lot of high minutes early on without success was moved to the 4th line and quite frankly was making too much to be there. In a move that saved a bit of cap, Anders Bjork was brought in for him and will get an opportunity to lead the pk and play a bottom six role.
Offensive is tough to find right now in the PFHL as probably 28 of 32 teams believe they can win and are all looking to improve. Florida however after doing some tinkering seemed to show some promise as a team who might strike a deal. In a blockbuster, the Bruins sent out Drake Batherson, John Klingberg and Adam Lowry. Lowry was having a decent season and had a favorable contract and was toughest to move. All three pieces were key Bruins.
Incoming to Boston though is Anthony Mantha, Connor Garland and Brandon Carlo. Carlo will add a bit more defence to the backend and Mantha and Garland will hopefully bring a scoring punch lacking up front. Who will play with who won't be determined until the Bruins take to the ice on Saturday night. It will be tough to gauge how much this shakeup brings in as they face a pretty easy team in Vancouver that the Bruins could probably beat with their AHL squad, however it's nice to see a move this big from Davidson early on, and will be curious to see if the B's can get the offense turned up to go along with their amazing defence.
The work in Boston is never done!
Meric "Schmerick" Wolfman signing out!
