Riding through the storm
Well, our start has been disappointing to say the least. This was Colorado’s GM Jussi Kalmi mentioning after another tight loss against Montreal couple of days ago. Usually happy and talkative GM did not have any pleasure to stay with journalists for a drink and extra chat. Someone overheard him to say to his trusted Head of European scout Kari Takko “Let’s go back to the hotel and get wasted. I have couple of nice bottles Japanese whiskys in the luggage. And let’s listen some Doors while we get drunk.”
Colorado started the season with modest expectations, but results till so far have been underperforming both in Pro and Farm roster. Majority of fans and Colorado’s employees have been scratching their heads as struggles seems to go on, and frustration is growing. Some fans have been calling for “Other League’s” main principles to be released from jail and help us. GM Kalmi & President Joe Sakic called these requests as “foolish demands by smallish minority of ignorant idiots. These so-called fans should use their time to find the pizzeria behind conspiracy theories and leave us alone. And never come back.”
Always serious Colorado’s Pro coach Claude Julien more pleased than normal to come for an interview.
Mike Chambers (Denver Post) ; So Claude, in overall what’s wrong?
Claude Julien ; Well, stupid questions like that for a starter.
Mike Chambers ; I feel some animosity and anger in your answer….
Claude Julien ; None of that. Me and my team know very well things aren’t going at this moment as they should be, BUT we don’t need any ignorant questions or comments. I think my answer was very transparent?
Mike Chambers ; of course Claude. But, in your words, how is the team situation at this precise moment?
Claude Julien : Lads are sincerely trying their best, but as pressure grows through losses, mistake level grows as well. Also, don’t seem have any lucky breaks. Can’t deny it, very difficult patch indeed. Only way through it is try to stay as positive as we can and hard work.
Colorado’s President Joe Sakic eagerly wants to talk with Mike Chambers.
Mike Chambers ; Hi Joe, could you give enlighten us on Colorado’s current state?
Joe Sakic ; First of all, I have went through some hard patches myself in my own playing career. It can be very frustrating at times, but as here we have something very well planned going behind the scenes. So, not worried at all.
Mike Chambers ; Would you be able to say positive and negative thought on the roster?
Joe Sakic ; Well, OEL and Mackinnnon have been very good indeed. Our main problem has been mostly secondary scoring and our elementary defensive lapses. But most of those two things we can put on lack of confidence and self-esteem.
Mike Chambers ; Do you and ownership give more time to GM Kalmi, Julien and rest of the staff?
Joe Sakic ; Absolutely yes. This was from the day one a long-term plan. And we have met most of our goals already. Like it has been said prior, patience is needed, we won’t be doing any hasty and unnecessary decisions just sake of it. GM Kalmi and rest of the staff have our 110% full support. So, if you criticize them, you criticize us as well.
Will there be light at the end of the tunnel?
That will be seen…
