To Islanders
Filip Forsberg Scott Mayfield Anthony Beauvillier Ottawa 2nd 2023
To Ottawa Jonnhy Gaudreau Bryan Rust Hampus Lindhom
Ottawa accepts! We needed to shake some pieces and where hoping this will stir the pot a bit! Adding a Scorer like Rust compared to Beauvillier will surely help in the lack of goal production in Ottawa! Thrilled at getting Johnny Hockey in the Nationed Capital. Lindhom should strengthen our D a bit more compared to Mayfield! Great talks Lennart!

Islanders agree, and believe it or not but is has NOTHING to do with the fact that I sign two more original Islanders. A clear drop in vital stats like SK and SC for sure, but this trade has other important ingridients for the Islanders. The most significant, the one that makes me accept what I think is the biggest drop, Lindholm for Mayfield, is Gaudreau. He decided to go straight to UFA and would have demanded my card to save. And negotiating the raise from 6,75 M + the SB was a big threat to our future. Even without knowing the new salary I would have to let Pulock + 2 more defenders go with very little room to hit the free agency bidding with. Forsberg is just as good, cheaper and under control for one more year. Beau is indeed a drop in scoring vs Rust, but with the age difference, the higher PO and looking at test season rerates I think he will be just as good in a close future. The toughest drop to me is Lindholm, since I love his SK and production so far. The opportunity to keep Pulock, the salary drop, leaving me with more room financially in the free agency, and the pick makes it a price I’m willing to pay with the above explanation. So yes, probably losing in the short perspective but given better conditions to face the future. And I don’t mind the fact that the guys are Islanders, but as already stated it was a mere bonus this time.
