Over the past week the San Jose Sharks have seen massive changes in their lineup via trades made by GM Matthew Rensby-Wills. We are going to analyze these trades in a series of articles that will hopefully provide some insight and entertainment to all PFHL fans. Enjoy!
After acquiring Sidney Crosby the Sharks decided it was time to shore up their defence, seen by many as a major weakness on the team. They did this by acquiring #1 D man Oscar Klefbom. Klefbom has adjusted well in San Jose going a point per game in his first 4 games (1G, 3A) but has struggled defensively (-5). Some say this is due to being placed next to defensive liability Tyson Barrie, will coach Q break up the Ekholm/Slavin pair to put together his 2 best d men? We asked him ourselves.
"Ekholm and Slavin have been so solid together but I can't lie and say I haven't been tempted to put Ek's and Klef together. They have been seeing a small amount icetime together and have been very solid when they've been paired up. For now D pairs will stay the same though."
To acquire Klefbom the Sharks shipped out quite a bit in terms of value. Top 6 winger Blake Coleman is out the door, along with shutdown defender Adam Pelech. 2 big pieces of the Sharks future are also heading to Florida, Fabian Lysell and Jake Neighbours were seen as part of the future core in San Jose but now they join the Panthers organization and their plethora of youth.
Stay tuned for when we tackle the next big trade, that one with a divisional rival!
