The Carolina Hurricanes entered this season with their eyes on the future. However the organization still went out and landed highly sought after veteran goaltender Parker Millner who is a former Vezina and Stanley Cup winner. Milner brings with him a calming and stability to the net, which allows the Canes forwards and Dmen to have confidence in their goaltending and allow the skaters to focus on their game. He also brings with him (Milner) an opportunity at a pretty solid career milestone as the Carolina netminder currently sits on 199 career wins. The veteran goaltender put up a shutout on home ice over the San Jose Sharks his last time out. He will get his first crack at hitting 200 Ws in Arizona on game day 10. The Hurricanes have started the year 2-1-0 as they hope to be a tough team to play against every night this season, with expectations of being just outside a playoff spot with a focus on developing and being a competitive playoff team in 2-3 seasons. Several guys who are expected to be key pieces in the team's future are projected to make the jump to the pro team as early as next season. The one position this organization lacks depth or a clear future in is goaltending, where Milner may tend to their crease for a couple of season's, but he is not their long term answer. Is their future guy for their crease already somewhere in their system? or is this something that GM and Team President Wes Mucyk will need to put a more serious focus on?
