The Carolina Hurricanes will be starting the PFHL in the transition phase, having an extremely heavy focus on developing. The organization has let it be known to it's fans that there will always be a strong commitment to keeping their prospect cupboards full. To giving those prospects the best things available to ensure they are provided every chance at growing and improving their game. This season however will be different, as the focus primarily on development will be at both the pro and farm levels.
Behind the bench for the Canes will be Paul Maurice who signed a 5 year deal with the team paying him $1.8 million per season. Tasked with helping to start the development down at the AHL level will be Neil Graham who also landed himself a 5 year deal with the organization. Graham is possibly the youngest coach in the PFHL at just 36 years of age who now comes with a yearly paycheck of $250k
Moments after being hired, Gm and Team President Wes Mucyk was said to have decided that the organization would take full advantage of the free buyout widow and release Jake Gardiner out of his current contract, with the intention to try and resign him to a new more team friendly deal. However reports are now out there that due to what the GM has seen happening over the past few days on the free agent market, Carolina will bite the bullet on the veteran puck moving Dman, and probably buy him out before season 3 or 4.
Carolina was able to sign PFHL goaltending legend Parker Milner, that's right, you heard it, Carolina was able to land Milner who is expected to be the teams #1 goalie this season. Parker signed a 2 year deal with the club. Other than that the Hurricanes struck out in free agency, well at least when it came to acquiring anything for their pro team as the franchise was outbid again and again. Outside of some farm bodies, a couple 4th liners for the pro team is all they were able to come away with in free agency as the franchise will now look elsewhere to fill the remaining holes on their roster.
