Today was a day that will go down in Vancouver Canucks history. Jim Benning stepped aside and took on the role of President of Hockey Operations, leaving the GM spot to up and comer Aaron Sanderson who currently hails from Southwest Manitoba. "It was a no-brainer for me....." Sanderson reported, "....The organization knew I wanted this job, and I am thrilled that they are showing faith in me and allowing me a chance to take this team in the direction I have envisioned for awhile now. Benning, the previous GM, had announced his intentions to vacate the position recently, wanting to focus on the upper management of the club. "He's(GM Sanderson) going to be good, he's got some great ideas and wants to win. I feel comfortable leaving him in charge of the team that I have started building." When asked about the upcoming dispersal draft, and his strategy for building a new team, Sanderson had the following to say: "We are going to see where we pick in the draft first, and then formulate a plan from there. We want to win now though, today, tomorrow, yesterday, and next week. We want to win." Only time will tell if the new GM can accomplish his goals, until then, the wet coast waits in anticipation.
