To VAN: Owen Beck (P) Alex Turcotte (P) 2025 BOS 1st
To WPG: Matt Duchene (50% retention) 2024 MTL 4th $812,177 cash
When I signed Matt Duchene to his current contract, I chose 3yr instead of 4yrs because I felt I would want to move him sooner, likely with retention... That day has arrived! We like Owen Beck, and feel that he alone should make the players portion of this deal worthwhile over the next 3 years, and Alex Turcotte is a heavy gamble on health, but if he goes forward Healthy he might be a better grab than Beck...... The Boston 1st is destined to be #32 next year (Just ask Scott), but a 1st is still a 1st. Retention got me most of this deal, I am sure.
Thanks Tom for the good discussions over the last week, and good luck in the playoffs this season!

Jets agree. A little acceleration for sure in our plans as we were looking for a top 6 center to help develop our younger wingers a bit faster. Duchene certainly fits that bill. We still have our own 1st in 2025 and while Beck was a highly rated prospect of ours, Turcotte was more middle of the pack, so the value here was excellent.
Again, value adds are what we're all about. So many options whether we play well or not, and with added retention, Duchene can become another top asset for contenders if we're selling at the deadline next year.
Thanks Aaron!
