With the PFHL entry draft and Free agency looming let’s have a closer look at what’s in store for the Kraken as they look to close the gap in a very tight Pacific division heading into next year.
First and foremost we have to take care of business in house, with the impending retention of restricted free agent Sebastian Aho, he’s one of the integral pieces of our core and a big part of our leadership group. General manager Josh Rose had this to say regarding contract negotiations “I’m sure we’ll be able to find common ground with Sebastian and fit him in at a salary that works for him personally and the team moving forward, he’s our number one priority this offseason”
Secondly, fans are wondering what to expect this year at the entry draft as Seattle holds the 14th and 28th overall selections. With a really strong pipeline of prospects already established, the organization feels as though they don’t have to target a certain position, we can see what’s available when the time comes and we have to ability to draft based on our board rather than positional need.
In unrestricted free agency I wouldn’t expect the team to be to overly busy, a middle 6 forward might be a priority if the price is right but we won’t break the bank to acquire on either. The biggest question looming is whether or not Devon Levi can handle the rigours of being a starting goaltending in this league and whether or not the kraken need to find a partner to share some of that workload.
Only time will tell as we wait and see how the offseason shakes loose
