There are big changes coming to the NHL - so big that it’s not even called the NHL anymore. After perhaps the most contentious CBA negotiation in sports history the NHL has given way to the PFHL. While you will still recognize the team names you likely will not recognize any of the league’s 32 new general managers. In a shocking move, the league’s owners have collectively decided to sell their teams to a Vancouver based billionaire named Aaron Sanderson. With the sale comes sweeping changes in management league wide.
The biggest change to the hockey world is the upcoming dispersal draft. Every player in the league is available to be taken in the draft. This is a real life fantasy hockey draft and the most important day in hockey history. Newly appointed President of Hockey Operations for the Arizona Coyotes, Hayden Maag, is excited for the opportunity.
“We have, quite frankly, had a losing culture in Arizona for a long time. Some really good players have played for our team but the results have not been there. The dispersal draft is a blank slate for everyone and we could not be more excited”
Maag has left his day job as an ER doctor in Las Vegas to try to lead a team to the Stanley Cup, a challenge he is looking forward to.
“I’m dealing with way fewer people on meth in this job...There is still some meth...just less of it. At least no one has tried to spit or swing at me yet.”
