It has been a LOOOOONNNGGG off-season so far in Dallas and it feels like it only has just begun. It was a shocking year, which saw the team fizzle and burn and miss the playoffs for the first time. Many considered the Stars as Central Division favorites heading into the season.
Months have passed since the team was eliminated from playoffs contention and head coach Rick Bowness was shown the door. Little has been done in the front office since trading has opened leaving many to wonder if GM Houghton is in over his head. This shouldn’t be that case as the GM has a long history of sim league failure.
Overall, though, the team isn’t in terrible shape heading into next season. While some upgrades could definitely be in order, the team still sports a ton of depth and has a full complement of pro-roster players ready to go. So even if no trades, or signings are made between now and puck drop, the team looks to still be competitive.
The organization also holds the 11th and 16th picks in the draft, along with 2 seconds and a 3rd, which if kept, should bolster the prospect cupboards in a big way. The team has yet to select a player in the first 3 rounds of any PFHL entry draft to date. But all options will be on the table as draft day approaches.
Although, it might be a slower, boring off-season to date in Dallas. Fireworks could happen at any time as the teams sees 17 of its 21 pro-players get set for free agency next summer. It could be an all-in, or all-out season. Only Simon can tell.
