What’s Going on in Montreal this Summer?
What is going on in Montreal this summer? Or better yet, why isn’t anything going on in Montreal this summer should be the question?GM Todd Snider has been relatively quiet this off-season. Instead of making trades and trying to bolster his club, it’s been reported GM Snider has been traveling instead!
We caught up with GM Snider asked a few questions on plans for this team for upcoming year.
Reporter: It’s been a quiet off-season, why?
Snider: We are biding our time, there is no rush. We believe our top 6 is set and our looking at our best options to fill the remaining holes in our roster.
Reporter: Have you had any trade talks with other teams?
Snider: We have been in discussion with a few teams but either the asking price was higher than we wanted to pay or the return on the player we were willing to deal was not what we expected.
Reporter: We have heard Dan Vladar name come up in talks, is there any truth to this?
Snider: Dan name has come up in plenty of talks but again teams are not willing to pay our asking price. Frankly, I believe he’s better then any UFA Goalie out there. We are happy to keep him around as he carries 1.5 million cap hit and is capable of carrying the load should Nico ( Daws) falter along the way.
Reporter: Anyone else teams are after?
Snider: I don’t like to get into specifics, but teams have asked about our young farm and prospects D-Core. I’ve let teams know that Luke Hughes won’t be moving anywhere. Are their others we would move, sure.
Reporter: What holes does this team need to fill?
Snider: We would need a couple bottom 6 forwards, or should I say middle 6 forwards. Obviously, we are after a number 1 D man and a 4-5 D-man. Other then that we’ll look for some depth players and farm help.
Reporter: Can we expect you to be active in free agency?
Snider: We will be active to certain point. We have about 28 million in cap room, we can make a big offer if need be. Will our offers contain a lot of signing bonus money? Probably not!
Reporter: This team has a lot of RFA’s and UFA’s at the end of 2024/25 season. Will there be some surprises not with the team at this time next year?
Snider: Negotiations with our players will start early in the season when we find out what they are looking for in return. Some players like Suzuki are in for a huge wage increase and we have been planning that for some time. I can tell you not everyone will be back, who those are I won’t tell you.
Reporter: Finally, can we get a prediction for this season?
Snider: Sure, the Montreal Canadiens will make the playoffs for the first time in their PFHL history!!
There you have it a bold prediction from a GM who has done little to improve his club so far this off-season!
