It's been a very quiet offseason in Ottawa as the 24-25 season is close to starting, in hope's of yet another successful season in the Nation's Capital. Important line of business in the offseason was to resign 5 of our top players in Kreider(obtained for Hyman who is now UFA), Monahan, Meier,Severson and Adam Fox. All had a considerable impact last year and signed for 4 years contract. Gm Bell was not expecting to lose aging Ovechkin to retirement, but after a long talk, where it is said GM Bell pleaded with Ovi to give it one last year, Ovi decided it was time to hang up the skates.
GM Bell is now very active in trying to get a top 6 forward, offering up young G Erson who will go from a 70OV to a 77-78OV(due to NHL rerate) with an 89PO and yet one more NHL rerate left for next offseason. If not, GM Bell might be active in the UFA market soon to open.
2 farm players will make the jump to the pro squad this season. D Zach Jones who had a terrific season on the farm last season. 23 year old who can SC,PA and CK and was bumped to a 74OV due to his stellar season. Also Egor Sokolov, at 23 and 73OV who SC at 82, can PA and CK will be an important part of the 3rd line with some PP time.
Young phenom Stutzle will be relied on more this year in hopes that he breaks out and becomes the superstar we hope he can be. G Jeremy Swaymen, who had a very down year last year will look to bounce back and be the top G in the league he should be. If not, look at GM Bell to not be very patient in his case and will be looking for a change in nets.
Finances are very good in Ottawa with a good management of the salary cap, and a long playoff run last year.
Another long run this year will be expected as Ottawa as made the playoffs every single year since the birth of the PFHL. The Cup is the ultimate goal.
