2023-24 season has been quite successful as Pro team managed to get into playoffs and Farm team is battling for the Calder trophy as we speak.
Pavel Buchnevich and Sidney Crosby were the main driving forces behind the surprise playoffs spot, Buchnevich managed to do 39 goals and 47 assists in 56 games as Avalanche player. Crosby's 20 goals and 39 assists in 42 games as Avs was excellent achievement as well. But it can't be underestimated what Crosby brought as leadership into this team, it has been priceless.
So, question is what will Avs do during off-season and how team looks like at this moment...
Pro team lineup now:
Boldy - Dubois - Buchnevich
Kapanen - Crosby - Kakko
Kravtsov - Kotkaniemi - ? ? ?
Kuokkanen - Cizikas - Crouse
Sanderson - Pulock
Barrie - ? ? ?
Gustafsson - ? ? ?/Nutivaara
Knight
Markström
As we can see some question marks are noted:
1) missing one 2nd/3rd line winger, can it be found from the Farm team? We should know it in coming weeks.
2) Avs miss one 1st/2nd line D, with good offensive and defensive traits. As it seems for now, only way to get that player is via trade or from FA. Rumors say Avs are willing to use good amount of high caliber assets to get the right player.
To leave no stone unturned, that is Avs' management state of mind regarding this topic.
Peeke will be RFA and aim is to sign a new contract with him. If that happens, he will be playing in 2nd or 3rd line.
Martin St. Louis' position as Pro team head coach is still bit unclear. Avs' management were impressed by certain aspects of his style of coaching, but underlying some weaknesses as well. One of his main weaknesses have been on defensive play and setup. GM Kalmi has confirmed the decision will be made within couple of weeks. If St. Louis will leave, new head coach won't be Todd Reirden. Reirden has done fantastic job with Farm team and he is expected to continue that work over there.
Farm team had excellent season and many players have had fantastic production levels, Marchenko, Kravtsov, Nutivaara and Reichel to name a few.
This evening (16.6.2024) deciding 7th game of the Farm finals will be played versus Rochester Americans, so tomorrow we know if our season ends with champagne, or not.
Added on the 17th of June : 7th Farm team final ended in defeat, defense and goaltending were not up to standards. Congrats to Rochester 😃
