As is it now Black Friday in the states, it is time to review the Penguins season. So far, it has been a disappointment at both the farm and pro level. The farm team has the least amount of goals in the league, the worst record and the worst goal differential in the league. This has been quite a surprise considering the skill level at the farm level. At the pro level, much of the team has been as expected however John Gibson has not played up to his competition. Below, we will discuss what Pittsburgh has to be thankful so far this season:
-K'Andre Miller: The young defenseman has 16 points so far this year and is -2 while playing over 25 mins per night.
-Jesper Boqvist: The 25 year RFA at end of season was acquired in the deal involving Yanni Gourde last season. So far, Boqvist has played up and down the lineup and has been a spark everywhere hes played with 14 points so far this season and leads the team in plus/minus while playing over 20 mins a night. The price tag appears to continue going up for Boqvist
-Pavel Zacha: Zacha has been a PPG top line forward so far this season for the pens. On pace for over 25+ goals, Zacha has been a driving force for the Pens offense.
-Adam Boqvist: The young defenseman was aquired in the Victor Hedman trade last season and has been a PPG player for the baby pens while playing 24.5 mil per night in all situations.
-Kent Johnson- The rookie has 9 goals at the farm level while playing on the top line along with Jeff Skinner and Pius Suter. Johnson looks like an early candidate to make the jump to the pro level next season
-Pius Suter: Even though Suter's cap hit is over 3 mill, the team decided that the best thing for his development would be to aid the farm team. Suter has been fantastic so far and has had a leadership impact while playing on the top line. Suter has 18 points in 18 games so far
-The PFHL league and GMS: The league serves as a great distraction to every day difficulties of life. I'm thankful for the relationships with every GM and the humor that we see every day.
Those are just a few of the bright spots the pens organization has had this year at this point. You'll notice that John Gibson and Brayden Schenn are not listed at this point. Gibson is hoping to come into form after a recent solid start while Schenn has been able to score quite a bit however is a leader for the Masters at -11.
