The Bruins started the season on fire. It looked like they had turned a corner and perhaps finally be relevant in the PFHL. Newcomers John Tavares and Max Pacioretty have boosted the offense and been worth the contracts that GM Davidson signed them too. But a recent 6 game losing streak has undone the great start and the left the Bruins wondering what to do.
"The big boys have done their jobs. John and Max have been fantastic. Anders(Lee) had been good at times, but beyond them the forwards flat out haven't been good enough." Said Davidson. "McAvoy and Nurse as always come to play and lead this team and Vaakanainen is growing into the star we expected but others need to provide a lot more."
GM Davidson is referring to Taylor Hall, Anthony Mantha, Reilly Smith and Tomas Tatar who have not been putting up enough consistent offense during this 6 game stretch to win hockey games. Is the past losing culture causing this slide? There should be enough leadership from the "New Bruins" to push past that, but it seems that it's same old same old from some guys.
Sure a couple of McAvoy suspensions haven't been ideal and shook up our flow. We are getting scoring chances, but guys flat out aren't finishing and our goals against is too high. We have players not committing to our own zone. The pp is trash, the penalty kill is trash. To me that spells out players that are lacking effort.
Gm Davidson had been working the phone very hard about a week ago but nothing materialized yet. The Bruins have taken a quick step back after the Red Wings landed Pastrnak. With the Atlantic boasting the motherload of beast teams, Sens, Panthers, Sabres and Red Wings, a final Wildcard spot may be all thats left over for the Bruins to battle for with a couple Metro teams, and the Lightning.
These next two weeks will tell the tale. The Bruins are just 2 points out of the playoffs with 2 games in hand but have to shake this slump first. Quinton Byfield will try to spark the team on the second half of a back to back Sunday. Perhaps that will start a roll. If not, then by early December the old version forwards of the Bruins heads will roll.
