After playing the pre-season like a possessed team, many fans had some high expectations from the Ruff-led Devils. It seems that snow has been falling in Hell as the only thing hot for the devils are the some seats. Not the ones the fans sit in, either. In the first 10 games, GM Bollentin made some early moves to shake things up and attempt to salvage the season. New to the 4th ring of Hell are Pettersson, Ceci, Mikheyev, Sundqvist, and Khaira. Out of Jersey are vets Silfverberg, Sheahan, Brodie, Moore, Gambardella, and McCormick. GM Bollentin did make one move that surprised, possibly even shocked some. By an act of Satan, GM Bollentin was able to wrangle on of the top centers in the league from Vancouver.
However, as any deal for such an elite player would warrant, bring William Karlsson to New Jersey, there were sacrifices to be made. The two more notable sacrificial lambs were up-and-comer with a lot of potential, Fabian Zetterlund, and the #6 overall pick in the 2023 draft, David Reinbacher. GM Bollentin saw quoted after the trade was announced, "Look, I've been fielding calls for several players given how we started the season. I believe in the young group we have. I believe the pre-season performance was not a fluke and is possible for these guys to achieve. I'm not happy, the staff isn't happy, and the players aren't happy. But we feel there is plenty of time to turn things around and fight for a playoff spot. We just need some discipline and grit, and a little puck luck never hurts."
Since the the big fish trade for Karlsson, the shake up may have broken up some of the lethargy in the players. The PK seems to be improving as is the PP. The team is 2-1-1, losing in a shootout in the 5th round and a 2-1 lose to the divisional 2nd place Rangers. Has Karlsson provided a spark for this team? Way to early to tell but signs are things are improving.
