The Calgary Flames have parted ways with Sean Monahan for Vincent Trocheck. Monahan was selected in the 4th round by the Flames in the inaugural dispersal draft and totaled 138 points in the first two seasons of the PFHL.
GM Sean McAndrews had this to say about the deal, "We really liked Sean and what he did for us but in Vinny we get a very similar player but with a much stronger defensive aspect to his game. He also has had 96 and 94 point seasons. Monahan was good for us but the offense didn't explode as we had hoped when we drafted him. We wish him all the luck in Ottawa but we thought this deal would make us stronger at both ends of the ice. We know that Sim chemistry can be fickle but we are really hoping Trocheck can add another dynamic scorer to our roster."
Trocheck is expected to slot right into Monahan's vacated spot at center on the top line with Debrincat and Nylander. Debrincat leads the Flames in scoring with 9 points (5 goals) in 5 games while Nylander is one of 7 Flames at a point per game pace with 5 points.
The Flames will test out their new toy tomorrow when they face off against the undefeated Red Wings. The Flames are currently sitting with a 3-2 record. Unsarcastically, it has been the teams defense giving up the second most goals in the Western Conference. Thankfully, the offense has been red hot with the second most goals for.
