Things appear to have gone dark in Texas the last couple of months where GM Houghton has been a complete no show. The summer has come and gone, and the GM is no where to be found. The preseason start is just days away and it’s leaving many to wonder if he is still employed by the league.
Let’s review briefly on the off-season that was for GM Houghton and the Dallas Stars:
• The team was ousted yet again in the WCF by a commissioner who went on to win the championship (conveniently).
• He made no big trades at the draft and only held a few later round selections.
• He let one of their top UFAs, Max Pacioretty walk in the offseason.
• He made zero effort to improve the goaltending position in free agency.
• He made no attempt to bring in any pro UFA’s.
• He did not capitalize on the big bank account the teams holds.
The list could go on…and on...and on…so it begs the question where is Jim? Where has he been? Is he coming back? Are the Dallas Stars vacant? Do we need a new GM?
I guess only time will tell. This has been your (cough)new(cough) GM of the Dallas Stars…

“Scott, no. I’m sorry. You can’t have my team or any of my money. You keep asking and trying to take them from me but your success in trying to do so has matched the success of your Bruins the last 2 years”.

“Sorry, everyone for that, I can explain or take questions later about all that. But to the task at hand”.

Your Stars are looking forward to another great season with GM Houghton back at the helm who is coming off winning the Jim Gregory Memorial Award which is voted on as the “top” GM of the league.
“To be voted on by my peers at the ‘top GM’ for the 22/23 season is truly humbling. I’m extremely grateful to be this year’s recipient of the award Thank you to everyone who voted for me. This award could have literally gone to 28 other deserving GM’s but unfortunately none of them finished as runners up.”
That wasn’t the only award the GM took home as he added the Media Award again this year. “Making media is something fun to do that I feel enhances the league for everyone. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, and I probably annoy some people along the way but it’s a fun way to keep things engaging and poke fun at other, always in good fun of course. I appreciate the votes for this award as well.”
However, there are 2 trophies that have alluded your Stars and GM Houghton to date and that is the Stanley Cup and by default the Clarence Campbell trophy. “That is the goal here. To win the cup. I know my moves or lack thereof this summer may be a head scratcher to some. But we have a plan here to cultivate a winning tradition in Dallas and keep this team competitive as long as possible. I know that is easier said then done, especially in this type of league. But we are going to give it a go.” The GM said.
“The core of this team is still intact with Barkov, Hughes, Huberdeau, Zibanejad upfront and Doughty leading on the back end. We’ve also added Connor Murphy into the mix (via trade) who will slot nicely into our top 4. We’ll also see some new blood come up from the farm that we are excited to see what they will offer. The only question mark we might have is our goaltending, according to some. We have all the confidence in the world in Francouz & Lankinen, they’ve taken us to 2 consecutive WCF. But like any position or player, we wont hesitant to improve should an opportunity present itself” the GM continued.
With the preseason upon us, we are excited to see what the new season has in store.
The real GM of your Dallas Stars signing off, or back in in this case,
Jim Houghton
