Last time we took a look at Carolina's picks through the first 2 rounds, let's now chat about their selections through the reminder of the 2023 PFHL Entry draft.
The Hurricanes only had 1 pick in the 3rd round. They selected Alex Ciernik with the 74th pick. Ciernik may be the best skater in the 2023 draft class, the kid can fly. The winger, born in Germany, plays for Slovakia is 1 of Carolina's smallest prospects at 5'10. Great at creating off the rush, his tremendous speed, skating ability and skill make him a real offensive threat. A middle 6 guy who can play on the powerplay, Carolina hopes that with his speed and given the proper coaching, 1 day he can be a key penalty killer as well.
Now onto the 4th round. With 2 picks Carolina used their first of the round, #106th overall to select their 2nd goalie on the day. From Sweden, 6'3 Melvin Strahl. They followed that up by selecting Zeb Forsfjall 115th. Zeb, who stands 5'9, is the smallest prospect in the Hurricanes organization. Great positioning and hockey sense, a hard work ethic along with some offensive skill could make Forsjfall a strong 2-way player in the PFHL. If Carolina struggles to deal with his size the Vancouver Canucks would probably take him as they love those 5'8, 5'9 players.
At pick #138 Carolina selected (for the 2nd straight draft) their 3rd goalie. 6'4 Russian netminder Ruslan Khazheyev. Next, fitting the mold of all the Carolina prospect Dmen, Noah Chadwick (only because he was a TML selection) who stand's 6'4. From Saskatoon, Chadwick has some pretty good mobility for a big body, he rushes the puck up the ice, but usually just dumps it in. There is some offensive potential there though.
The last Hurricanes selection was Connor Levis at pick #159. Levis is a big body that uses his size well. He can play down the middle or on the right side. He plays hard and has a strong head on his shoulders. Levis has the potential to be a bottom 6 power forward who brings a strong defensive game.
