2022-2023 season is over, for Colorado it has been another very long and arduous season. Only a few bright spots during the season, especially in Pro roster. Farm team had their up and downs, but at the end managed to win the Calder Cup, which gave some desperately needed hope for the whole organization. GM Kalmi and President Sakic have been under straining negative social media campaign through the whole season; therefore, they don’t take participate in any interviews at this moment.
Ex-NHL goalie Kevin Weekes managed to get an interview with new assistant GM Dominik Hasek and Head of European scouting Kari Takko. It took a while to organize it as Colorado’s upper management has no trust in the media at the moment, hopefully it will change after this interview. Well, let’s wait and see…
K. Weekes: “Dominik Hasek, perhaps the greatest goalie of all-time is now the AGM of Colorado Avalanche. How this happened?”
D. Hasek: “Well, it came out of the blue sky. I was at home in Prague and J. Kalmi called me and said that he wanted me badly in this organization. I was not so keen at the beginning, but he was very convincing. Therefore, I’m here now.”
K. Weekes: “So, this organization seems to have only European members on upper management. Why?”
D. Hasek: “Why not? Most of the NHL teams’ upper management is full of overdue people of the trade tbh. We want to go forward with our fresh ideas and not to be stuck in 90s way of thinking. I think that answers your questions fully?”
K. Weekes: “ Yes it does indeed. No fear of bad attitude from other teams?”
D. Hasek: “Bit like Russia, stuck with Putin’s old school attitude, new ideas are needed. Simple as that! Slava Ukraini”
K. Weekes: “Where is GM Kalmi?”
D. Hasek: “Midsummer in Finland takes its toll. But he sent the picture. Here it is.”
K. Weekes: “You started the off-season with couple of big trades, what is your comment?”
K. Takko: “As we have been saying for the last 18 months that we have a long-term plan going forward, and this was the time to put a few of our assets in the play. Main scope is not to be last overall again and provide better support for our young core to develop.”
K. Weekes: “You have received vast critique for using far too many assets on Toews for example. How you respond it?”
K. Takko: “Well, we firmly believe we used the assets very well indeed. Of course, every trade is a risk. We feel these players will provide us a better future and greater development for younger lads. Of course, we hope no injuries will happen.”
K. Weekes: “Could you give us any inside of possible lineup?”
D. Hasek: “No worries, here is the basic framework.”
K. Weekes: “There has been some rumors Colorado might be after a new 2nd goalie. Any truth?”
D. Hasek: “We always try to improve our team, if good opportunity arises, we have to think about it. No reason to deny it. But, if nothing happens from today till the start of the season, we are fine with it. We are happy what we have, this season will show great improvement.”
D. Hasek & K. Takko: “Any other questions? We are busy, so…you should understand?”
K. Weekes: Ok…, well, I think this was it then. Cheers…”
