INTRODUCING THE 2023 PFHL STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS: YOUR VANCOUVER CANUCKS!!!!!
After years of waiting, Vancouver fans finally have something to cheer about! The Vancouver Canucks had an incredible playoff run which saw them win the Stanley Cup in game 6 of the final round, against the highly skilled Detroit Redwings!
To get there, the Canucks had to first go through their toughest test in round 1, the Edmonton Oilers. Down 3 games to 1, Vancouver had a judgement lapse in which farm goaltender Griffen Outhouse was pushed into game 5 after Connor Hellebuyck was pulled after a terribl first 2 periods. Outhouse went on to shut the doors, all the way into overtime, where the Canucks managed to take game 5, and they didn't look back after that moment!
After beating the Oilers in 7 games, and winning their first PFHL playoff series, Vancouver took on Connor McDavid and the San Jose Sharks. Many had the Sharks as the favourites in both the series, and the cup race, but GM Sanderson knew different.
"San Jose is great, really great, but if you can shut down their top line, you have a chance, because their defense and goaltending is a little light." commented Sanderson.
The Sharks would lose 4 straight as the Vancouver Canucks found their stride, with "Operation Overload" in full effect.
Just what was Operation Overload? Coach Sutter had this to say:
"Yeah, so what I did was I put the guys that couls score on the ice more, and the guys who were posing for the cameras on the ice less. Playoffs is won by winners, and winners don't care about their hairstyles. That should be obvious with our Captain. Patrick Kane don't give 2 shits about his hairstyle, he just wants to win".
Some pundits would say the Canucks were not playing their lower players enough, but those pundits also picked the Sharks to win the Stanley Cup....
After the Sharks came the legendary Dallas Stars. Much was made about the depth of Jimmy Houghton's club, but Canucks management didn't see it. Too many people out there seem to think your defensemen all need to pass the puck in order to contribute. Justin Holl, Josh Brown, patrik Nemeth, and Jani Haakanpaa are the bottom 4 of 7 Canucks regular defensemen, and none of them are built for scoring. In fact, they all did EXACTLY what they were supposed to do: slow play and make hits.
The Dallas Stars did not shine bright, losing in 5 games against a deeper Canucks squad that was firing on all cylinders. Connor Hellebuyck really made a difference in this series, making a statement that he wasn't just a guy in a funny uniform.
The team, supersticously, did not touch Clarence Campbell's as they celebrated coming out of the West.
Then the big dance, against the Eastern Conferences best team, the Detroit Redwings.
The series had ups and down's for both teams, as well as chess style line matching between the two GM's. In the end, Detroit's defensemen were unable to replicate what they had done on so many nights previously, and the Canucks were the new PFHL Champions!!!!
Canucks Playoff awards:
MVP - Patrick Kane
Top D - Samuel Girard
Unsung Hero - Jordan Greenway

Honourable Mention - T.J. Oshie
Canucks Regular Season awards:

The 2023-23 Canucks will go down in history as the team that did it, when everyone said they could not. Cheers to the players, coaches, management, and most of all, the fans!
