Coach Luke Richardson , (C -) Montreal already has confirmed he won’t be back, needed to get this team in playoffs but his lack of defensive system hindered the club
Center Nick Suzuki ( B +) – had a great offensive year with 33 goals and 60 helpers to lead the team in points , will need to improve defensive play night in night out against other teams top line , signed 2 more years at .863 million.

Center Ryan Getzlaf- (C ) No goals in 16 games . GM Snider acquired Getzlaf and his expiring contract to rid himself of Stastny 4 year deal. Getzlaf will not be resigned and probably retires .
Center Riley Nash- ( C) played 74 games an averaged less then 10 minutes a game, chipped in with 7 goals this season but could find himself with a new team next year if he doesn’t clear waivers and head to Laval.
RW Mark Stone- ( A) Montreal gave up a lottery pick . Allison and couple prospects to acquire the pending UFA . He came in and played top line with Suzuki and Caufield and provided a defensive presence as well as 33 points in 30 games . Stone agreed to stay another year at 9.50 M .
RW- Lucas Raymond (A+) – led all rookies with 32 goals and 64 points as well as being a plus 4 . Formed a great second line with Pageau and Tkachuk. Should be in serious consideration for Rookie of the Year
RW Luke Kunin ( C-) Saw a dip in his scoring and TOI from year 1 in Montreal . Would benefit next year with non- revolving linemates.
RW Paul Byron (D) – Byron got into 68 games this year and was -16 on the year adding only 9 points. Like Nash he could find himself either in Laval or playing on another team next year
LW Cole Caufield ( C) – hit the 20 goal mark and improved on last seasons numbers, yet we still are looking for more out of him
LW Matthew Tkachuk (A+) – second only too Suzuki in points (91) 32 goals, plus 13 and 232 Hits. Did everything Montreal asked of him.
LW Tyson Jost ( C+) – had 6 points in 12 games after being acquired at deadline , can play center also and kill penalties
LW- Max Jones ( D) – played almost half the season up with big club and only registered 1 goal and 2 assists, Jones is out of options and Montreal will likely look to move him.
W- Jesse Ylonen/ Rafael Harvey -Pinard (C )- both had a cup of coffee with big club, both have options remaining and probably head back to Laval for another year
D- Noah Hanafin (B)- played a dozen games with the Habs after being acquired in a trade and notched 10 points and was a plus 6 , played 20 plus minutes and should form part of #1 unit for Montreal next year
D- Vince Dunn (C+) – acquired late in season from Buffalo and notched a goal and 5 assists in dozen games, Montreal project him as a second line pairing next year.
D- Jordan Harris (B-) as a rookie played in 40 games averaging almost 19 minutes a game after call up with 16 points and a minus 1 rating while playing on #1 defensive group . Should settle into # 2 pairing next year with Dunn.
D- Brett Kulak ( A-) 7 goals and 13 assists in all 82 games, Kulak had a plus 3 , 115 hits, 119 block shots and is signed for 1 more year at an attractive 1.85 million . Great 3rd pairing d-man.
D- Marcus Pettersson (C-) Pettersson had the worst plus minus on team with -16 , signed to 2 more years at 4.025 Million, Montreal will look to move on from his services.
D- Niklaus Perbix (C-) – no points in 13 games after pressed into service with multiple trades at end of year, Perbix likely will stay with the big club in a 7th man roll as he only makes 750 k.
G- Carey Price (C )- Price played in 52 games and didn’t have a lot of help in front of him, some say he wasn’t happy as Vladar ate into maximizing his games played. The fans gave him a standing ovation his last home game played as they knew his time had coe to a close . Montreal will save on his 10 million plus salary and find a cheaper option to pair with Vladar next year.
G- Dan Vladar ( C ) - played in 32 games this year and his numbers were ballooned by 4 or 5 games at beginning of year where he was absolutely terrible. Settled down to turn his season around and will battle for #1 job with Price’s replacement next year.
Overall this team should have finished higher in the standings with the talent they have on board. Top priorities will be a number 1 Defenceman, a 1 B goalie and bottom six forwards.
Montreal will begin their search of new head coach. Preferably one that lasts longer then a year like the two previous coaches .
The Habs might not graduate anyone from Laval next year to the pro squad but the future looks really bright with pro players Suzuki, Caufield, Raymond , Harris, farm players Mysak, Farrell, Schwindt, Ylonen, and prospects L.Hughes, L.Mallioux, F.Mesar, W.Dufour, O.Beck ,C.Gauthier & A.Gritsyuk all under the age of 23.
