Dear Loyal Fan,
On behalf of the players, coaches and staff I would like to apologize for our dismal end of the season. The abysmal performance in the first round and another first round exit has been very frustrating. We thought we put together a solid contending hockey club, made some risky deals at the trade deadline and in hindsight probably regret a couple. We got caught up in an arms race and made a couple ill-advised decisions. But that’s all water under the bridge now and to next season we look.
Current roster we have three players testing the free agent market, Schenn, Stephenson, and Sanheim. We will need to explore replacement options either via free agency, trade or prospect promotion. 14+ million in cap space we will be exploring the free agent market, we still haven’t inked Debrusk and that will cut into that cap space. We have some aging players but still have loads of talent, Pavelski, Ovechkin and Carter all have something left to give and may find themselves on the trade block. Candidates for promotion from the farm, Dolan-Anderson and Ruotsalanien. From our prospect pool we have 2 hopefuls coming up that will most certainly boost the farm roster. JJ Peterka will land on the forward group, most likely 1st line duties and all special teams, JJ will be a huge part of future Buffalo. And our goaltending will receive a huge boost as Devon Levi is ready for pro minutes, this kid is for real!
Now we focus on the draft, 7 picks in this year’s draft we will do our best to land some talent. Our first and 2nd will be later rounds but the draft is deep and the Sabres will pick up a few studs.
