The season did not go as planned or hoped by the staff or players. The first two weeks provided hope that the off-season moves made would pay off, with a 7-2 record out of the gate. Then an “avalanche” hit the Rock and the Devils were shut out. The wheels fell off from there, picking up only 2 wins in the next 16 games.
The Devils hung around a WC spot, thanks to the less-than-stellar play by other teams which helped them blend into the massive black hole of subpar performances. With the writing on the wall, the Devils made some moves in hopes of sparking a late-season surge that fizzled out.
Since hitting the links, and conducting their exit chats, the back office is focused on finding solutions to turn things around. With Arizona holding their 2023 1st round pick (#5th OV), they will need to be creative with their late-round pick or find a package to move them up.
GM Bollentin said its time to evaluate, re-tool, and look to the future.
