Is GM Charles-A. Poulin the right GM for St-Louis ?
I've been following the St-Louis Blues organization for all my life. A long time fan and I am fortunate enough to have a job that let me follow my favorite hockey team. That being said, I feel like it's time to ask us if Charles Poulin is the right person to be in charge of the Blues. Let's have a look at his track record. Last year (21-22) the Blues missed the playoffs by 1 point (W42 L33 OTL7) for a total of 91 points. This season the Blues were out of the playoffs pretty early this season with a record of W34 L40 OTL8 for a total of 76 points. So if we add this up we end up with a 76 Wins 73 Losses and 15 OTL.

That's basically a little over .500... That's not great but I could be worst.
So when we look a bit deeper at the Blues stats, we can see that they were mid of the pack for special units in 2021-2022 and 2022-2023. Again.. not great but it could be worst.
Where it gets ugly is when you look at the differential in GF/GA.
It was GF 279 GA 263 (+16) in 2021-2022 but last season it was GF 244 GA 297 for an ugly -53 !!!
Why did things went so wrong in only one offseason ? I usually do not listen to other medias (even worst when it's PFHL's official media) but I listened to the PFHL podcast last week. Now... We need to understand that none of those guys know anything about simulated hockey but they had a great point. The Blues need to find a direction and follow it. Be patient !
At the moment, I feel like the Blues do not have any clear direction.
Are we rebuilding ? Are we trying to sneak in a last minute playoffs spot ? Are we trying to win the PFHL Cup ? Are we trying to relocate the team in Québec ??
What the fuck is going on here ?
I attempt every Blues games, interview every players in that locker room, go to every GM Poulin interviews, etc... I dream about the Blues at night.
If GM Charles Poulin wants us to believe in him and the organization, he needs to find a direction and follow it. You can't keep changing directions every time the wind changes..
We can't be an average to bellow average team for ever. The Blues fans deserve a winning organization.
So what's next ?
I like to criticize GM Poulin and the organization but I love to give solutions:
- Rebuild. That's it that's all,
- Get rid of players like Colton Parayko, Connor Murphy, Christian Dvorak, Blake Wheeler, Jack Campbell and all the other veterans,
- Save cash for the future contracts and build that bank account,
- Start from the ground up. The AHL team needs to start winning games and create players for the pro team,
- Draft the best players available. No bullshit. Don't fall for the hype,
- FOLLOW THE PLAN.
If GM Poulin follow these steps we might have a chance to win the PFHL Cup in a few years. If not... we'll be average to bellow average for the years to come.
