Howdy all you Bruins fanatics!
This is Meric "Schmerick" Wilfman reporting to you live from Edmonton where your Boston Bruins are set to take on the Edmonton Oilers tonight. While yes the Oilers are a team in the shitty Pacific Division, they are the one team there that is relevant.
Tonight proves to be a tough ask for the Bruins as they are marred in a massive slump winning just 4 games I the past 21.
We got ahold of GM Davidson who spoke a out his team.
"I won't lie, it's been an up and down year. We started off showing some promise early in the year. 2-1 turned into 2-4. Still playoff relevant at 13-12 there was some thought to adding to the group this year, but that quickly faltered with the team winning just 8 of the last 33 games. That is exceptionally bad. This was always the plan
The offseason was intentionally quiet. This was a building year first and foremost. We were on the brink of moving this years first but fortunately I took some time to reconsider that and am thankful we did. We have moved out a few goaltenders this season. We lack a number one center. That hole is unlikely to be filled until Byfield and or PInto are ready. Both will be full time pros next season but realistically they will need another year before they can truly become stars in the league."
GM Davidson also spoke highly of his other farm to be graduates Urho Vaakanainen, Cam York and Steven Noesen. All three will be expected to be full time pros next year.
Taking their place on the farm especially on defence would be newly acquired Evan Nause who is projected to lead the farm next year. Evan was a key part of seeing highly sought Conor Garland go out the door.
The season could have been a lot different had some of the league leading 13 loser points been turned into wins, but facts are this team isn't yet ready to win those games without true game breakers.
What lies ahead the best 24 games? Likely more guys going put the door, even guys with contract control like Girgensons. Whole he's a guy Davidson wants to keep, he needs to clear roster spots for the youth moving up and Girgensons is a solid playoff add for someone this year and next. Three teams have already enquired on him.
The most likely thing to watch in Boston though is where they end up in the Bedard sweepstakes. There are a number of really good consolation prizes as well out there so the focus is still on developing and adding to that mix.
From Edmonton, this is Meric "Schmerick" Wolfman signing out!
