West Allstars Announced by GM Josh Rose – Article by Sean McAndrews
Here are the Western allstars. Of note, 5 of the 6 starters are from the Pacific. Just saying. That’s all. Just saying.
Starting Lines:
C – Connor McDavid (SJS): McJesus leads the league in goals with 35 and is 3rd in the league for points with 72. He is good.
LW – Auston Matthews (VGK): A-Matt trails McDavid for the Richard by 1 goal but leads the league in points with 75. He is playing left wing despite being a center but we will let it pass.
RW – David Pastrnak (VAN): Compared to the other two on this line Pasta is having a ho-hum year with a measly 58 points in 44 games. Yawn.
D – Cale Makar (NSH) – All hail Cale! The talented rearguard has 51 points for the Preds this season.
D – Rasmus Dahlin (CAL): The Dalhin-ator is one of several defensemen leading their team in scoring with 51 points…same as Makar. The talented young duo have come into their own.
G – Thatcher Demko (EDM) -The Demko-nator is 3rd in league for SV% and GAA. Although he plays for the Evil Oilers his season is impressive nonetheless.
Left Wingers
Artemi Panarin (CHI): The Bread Man is feasting on opposition goalies on the “Triplet” line notching 62 points.
Jason Robertson (NSH): J-Rob is having an excellent year in Nashville as they push for a playoff spot. His 59 points have really helped the Preds and his continued production will be key fort the final push.
Jake Guentzel (LAK): Gooey’s season has been anything but messy as he has combined solid 2 way play with his 51 points keeping the Kings in the hunt for the crown.
Right Wingers
Clayton Keller (SEA): CK is another allstar winger averaging over a point per game for the Seattle Kraken. Release the Clayton Keller!
Mitchell Marner (STL): M&M has been in delicious form for St. Louis leaving fans anything but blue.
Travis Konecny (VGK): TK is second in the league with 42 apples. Look for him to team up with some of the snipers on the team as he dangles and dishes all over the place.
Centers
Alexander Barkov (DAL): Barky is 1 off the lead for the Richard as well with 34 goals and is second in the league with 73 points. Maybe he should have pulled a Matthews and played on the wing with McDavid or even pushed him off center.
Dylan Larkin (ARI): Larky leads the Desert Dogs with a howling good 51 points and a +21 rating which is pretty impressive on a team that has been in the Dog Pound for much of the year.
Mathew Barzal (WPG): Like Larky, Barzy leads his team with 46 points in 40 games on a Jets squad that has failed to take off.
Defensemen
Torey Krug (EDM): Kruger is one of the D-men leading his team in scoring surpassing the likes of Horvat and Laine. His 57 points are impressive given the tough minutes he eats up and probably warrants a starting nod but oh well.
Damon Severson (ARI): Dimes is aptly named as his 39 assists far and away leads the Coyotes. Desert Dogs, Pound, etc.
Shea Theodore (ANA): Shea Butter is as smooth as…..butter. Yet another D man leading his team in scoring. The Ducks are last in the mighty Pacific but it is not due to Butter.
Moritz Seider (MIN): Zee German has GM Wolf grinning like a…..wolf. The young blue liner has quickly established himself as a true #1. There is a good chance he will be benched soon for the Bedard sweepstakes.
Goalies
Connor Hellebuyck (VAN): Helly Jelly could easily be the starter on this team but he will have to settle for period 2. He has numbers virtually the same as Demko for the surging Canucks (fake Canuck vs really Canuck…..irony).
Spencer Knight (COL):Pickings were a little slim for allstars on the Colorado Avalanche but Knighty Knight has been a bright spot, like a star in the Knight.
There you have it. This is how the West was won. The top line is unreal. The young D is sick, as the kids would say. There is lots of talent on the squad that should give the East a run for its money. Thanks to both GMs for picking solid squads and I am sure the game will be fantastic.
