Tonight, in a hard fought battle against the LA Kings, coming out with a 6-5 victory that saw both Trocheck and Rust, 2 players that where put on the trading block (which did not generate enough interest amongst the GM's), both came off a 4 points night. Gm Mike Bell believed last year that this team was built to be among the elite teams of the league and this year they are definitly proving it. With the win, Ottawa sits atop the Atlantic division, tied with Buffalo, and are 2nd overall in the league in both standings and power rankings.
The stellar play of netminder Grubauer with its .903 and 2.94 GAA but most important is the fact he sits 2nd among goalies with 15 wins. Our top 4 forwards in Trocheck who went nowhere in production begining of the season now has 30 points. Rust has 31 points but sits top of the league with a +21. Zach Hyman has 31 points also, but with the biggest surprise being Ryan Nugent Hopkins who is 9th among wingers in points with 35 points in 25 games.
Let's not forget our 2 top defenseman who are anchoring the blue line and feeding our forwards. OEL is having a stellar year sitting 2nd among dman in points with 32 points and Erik Johnson who I also put on the trading block with no interest is sitting 10th among dman in points with 28 points.
So look for this team to keep being among the top of the league as GM Mike Bell still has a few tweaks he would like to make before the deadline.
