This insider has learned of some dissention within the locker room of the New York Rangers. It seems the personnel moves made by GM Richter this summer have left some of the remaining players unhappy. Most notably star forward Brayden Point is said to be re-evaluating his future and role on the club. A source close to the player revealed that Point is extremely disappointed with the new direction of the club and the departure of his star linemates. It is quite evident that Point is not seeing the same on ice success that had him named an all-star last season. The same source said that Point’s representation has engaged GM Richter regarding a trade but has been rebuffed for the time being.
So far, all attempts at corroborating this situation with the Rangers front office have been unsuccessful. The management group has been decidedly tight lipped this year with respect to the direction of the squad. Could we see further trades this season? If the plan was to tank the season in hopes of a lottery pick, they are doing a poor job of it. Going into this week’s games the Rangers sit in the no man’s land of 19th spot overall in the standings. Will the GM further strip down this team or look to hold onto a wild card playoff spot?
More to come as this story develops.
