After starting the season with a jump, the Capitals currently sit at 7th spot in the Metro with 15 points (6-11-3). It's not as bad as it seems being only 4 points out of a playoff wild card spot.
Leading the team this season is you centerman Nico Hischier with 29 points (11G, 18A) in 20 games. Offseason pick up Nick Jensen has paired well with stud dman Evan Bouchard on defense, providing 34 points in 20 games.
Perhaps the most disappointing thing so far this year has been the play of both goalies Andersen and Vanecek. Both have losing records and can't seem to come up big with a save when it's needed. Both are under contract for a couple more seasons with the team so hopefully they are able to find their games in short order.
The Caps were not expecting to make the playoffs this year as a lot of bodies were moved out by new GM Jay Williams in exchange for a lot of futures. That is where the spotlight sits currently on the organization, on the farm in Hershey. The Bears currently sit atop the standings in the East, trailing the Chicago Wolves only by one point.
The big reason the Bears are doing so well is the play of youngsters Morgan Geekie, Seth Jarvis, Rasmus Sandin and Cal Foote. Sandin leads the team in points with 31 (6G, 25A) and Seth Jarvis leads in goals with 12 in 20 games. The future definitely looks bright for the Capitals with all four of those players expected to make the big club next season.

It’s crazy you are so close to playoffs being 8 games under 0.500. (I count OT losses as losses but not everyone does). Get on a heater and make up some ground!
