To the surprise of many, the San Jose Sharks have been awfully quiet this off season....a little too quiet.
During the regular Season GM Matthew Wills made many trades and did everything he could to make his team better, but not much has happened this off season other than some minor signings and a underwhelming PFHL Draft. We sat down with him to discuss the off season.
Not much has changed since last season with this roster, has it?
Getting right into it eh? Listen, we believe in this group we've assembled. Yes last year ended in disappointment...but overall our team has improved since last year. Everyone is a little older, more experienced and our younger core players drastically improved during the off season.
Who is most improved in your eyes and why?
I'm going to go with Roope Hintz. He's taken another step in his development and we believe this season he will show he's a legit 1st line winger next to McDavid....those Finnish sauna's have a little magic in them.
Last season the 2 biggest problems for the Sharks were the 3rd line and goaltending, why haven't you addressed that?
Sturm and Jenner both improved overall and yes Robinson may be seen as a downgrade on Craig Smith but he brings an energy game that our 3rd line needs. Ned is still young and we still believe he can be the goalie to lead us to the promised land, we just need to play better defence in front of him.
Why haven't the Sharks made any moves?
We've tried, we tried to add a solid 3rd line player before free agency but talks went no where...everyone in this damn league wants to win.
What are the hopes for the Sharks this season?
It's the cup or bust, I could care less about division titles and what not...we want that cup!!!
Speaking of the Pacific Division, mostly every team has gotten better...does this worry you?
No...I respect all of the other GM's and teams, but our team has a hunger to win and that's exactly what we're going to do. This division is shaping up to be a bloodbath once again.
Anymore messages for the fans out there?
Yeah...stop talking shit about me on internet forums!!
