The Edmonton Oilers, unsurprisingly have had a very quiet offseason. Since being ousted from the playoffs in 4 quick, tidy games, fans have been wondering what in the Hell is going on. Many fans are wondering if General Manager Travis Chorostkowski has disappeared, or even has a pulse? After a fairly quiet draft, which saw the Oilers add 6 players to their prospect pool, headlined by University of Minnesota standout Jimmy Snuggerud, picked 24th Overall.
Snuggerud is a goalscoring winger who has an elite shot and an uncanny ability to get his shot off from anywhere and any angle. His shot immediately jumps off the page when you watch him play. He has elite-level power, accuracy and a deceptive release that allows him to beat USHL goalies from anywhere in the offensive zone. Snuggerud's father and grandfather both played for Team USA, plus he has a bad-ass handle. Rounding out the rest of the draft for the Oilers were Jani Nyman 56th Overall, Jordan Gustafson 88th Overall, Stephen Halliday 120th Overall, Ryan Hofer 184th Overall, and Zakary Karpa 216th Overall.
In Chorostkowski's defense, he didn't have a lot to do this offseason, with zero players headed to Free Agency. With the roster already in place for the most part, The Oilers did add depth defencemen Alec Martinez and Anton Stralman. Although these 2 D-men are serviceable, they do not fill the need of a top pairing D-man that the Oilers so desperately need. Hopefully GM Chorostkowski will strap on some testicles and make a trade of significance before it is too late. With the teams in the Pacific continuing to get stronger, the Oilers could find themselves in a Connor Bedard lottery rather than the playoffs in no time.
Frustrations, and the amount of homeless people are mounting and on the rise around Rogers Place. Neither is a good thing.
