2022 Draft class - Despite not having a 1st round pick Sabres did make a move with Montreal to secure a 2nd round pick sending Philip Danualt to the Habs for prospect Simon Holmstrom and Boston 2nd. Sabres then made another deal for a 2nd sending TJ Brodie to the Devils. Now armed with 3 second round picks the Scouting staff prepared the draft board. The selections in order #35 Ryan Cheesly, #50 Jack Hughes, #54 Noah Warren and the late round picks #86 Quinn Finley, #150 Vsevold Komarov and #182 Joel Ratkovic-Berndtsson. A decent crop considering the state of our draft position at the end of the season.
Trades - GM Edwards made a few trades prior to the draft, the trades for picks we’ve already discussed. Other trades made we’ll address now,
A pro trade was made with the Florida Panthers, Sabres sent Christian Dvorak and 2023 3rd to the Miami coming back to Buffalo was a little more offense in Jonathan Drouin and 2022 5th rounder. The deal is intended to add some more scoring to the second line but the defensive play might take a hit.
There was a minor transaction during the Draft with Dallas moving out picks for future picks.
Free Agency – there were many bids made by Sabres management, some for top 9 talent and some for bottom 6 talent. In the end Sabres came away with 8 new players, 3 forwards were acquired Josh Leivo, Cedric Paquette and Mikhail Grigorenko rounding out the 4th line on the pro club. 4 defensemen to help out the Rochester Americans, Nikita Nesterov, Dillon Simpson, Rinat Valiev, Cameron Schilling. These 4 are strictly depth Farmers helping out until prospects can make the bigs. Joseph Woll is the lone goalie pick up, a young guy that might make the Americans one day.
Next up will be pushing players through waivers see what remains and begin the Pre-Season.
