Now, today we were supposed to be taking a look back at the players our Carolina Hurricanes took in the recent 2022 PFHL Entry draft, but, there's nothing really great there, draft was a little underwhelming for me. (FYI I am not looking to move those I drafted) They took Logan Cooley with the 4th overall pick. Rumors around are that GM Wes Mucyk was going to move the pick had Slafkovsky or Cooley had not been available come the time when Carolina was on the clock. The Canes then took a few goalies, roll the dice, why not goalies are just that anyway and Carolina has ridiculously thin depth, well, anything at that position.
dah dah dah, dah dah dah looks like we have a trade that just broke. GM and team President Wes Mucyk is currently speaking to the media along with his personal assistant Kate Beckinsale by his side. Mucyk"yeah, umm, I think Nic will be a great addition to our team. He will center our 3rd line, guy works hard and is good in the faceoff dot. We have moved a lot of prospects this year, but have managed to keep our young core pieces, 1st and 2nd round picks, and the prospects we really like."
I really like our teams prospect pool. It's strong. Minus just 3 or 4 forwards and our goaltending prospects, all the others I think are good to high end prospects.
So, the team has however made several trades of late. Let's take a look at those pieces which have come in. On the backend it has been Travis Sanheim and Adam Pelech. Up front Dylan Strome and Frank Vatrano will play together on the teams 2nd line and 2nd power play unit. My expectation is that both of these guys will be moved following this upcoming season to make room for the additions of future, hopefully core pieces, Lafreniere and Cozens. Nic Paul will come in and center the team's 3rd line, which I think he will be a great fit there, and Pierre-Edourd Bellemare will be the team's 4th line center.
GM Wes Mucyk "we spoke with many teams around the league recently, it was really surprising to me to find out that only one team was looking to sell, and it's not even an organization you would've figured was doing so."
Mucyk " yeah, we've brought in some guys with term on their contracts" meaning trade chips next offseason to make room for Lafreniere, Cozens and Schneider joining the big club. Last season was tough to watch with the team having 1 solid line and nothing else. This year their D core is much better, and they have 3 good lines. It will make for some better hockey this upcoming season, but it's still all about the future here for the Hurricanes.
