Edmonton, Alberta --
Edmonton, Alberta -- As quietly as the Edmonton Oilers slid into the playoffs, the Edmonton Oilers silently departed, quickly bowed out the the San Jose Sharks in 4 games.
After a fairly impressive regular season which saw the Edmonton Oilers flirting with the Pacific Division title late into the schedule, the Edmonton Oilers found themselves cleaning out the locker room early. "It was really devastating to say the least. Heartbreaking". Captain Bo Horvat sat and spoke with the media on garbage bag day. "We all take it personally, letting down each other, the organization, and most importantly the fans". Horvat and others mulled around the dressing room shaking hands, and chatting for awhile before everyone dispersed and went their own ways. Some players will head off to warmer locals, summer cottages or their hometowns, but some including Matt Grzelcyk, Torey Krug, and Tom Wilson plan on staying in Edmonton in hopes of getting a jumpstart on next season.
The Oilers aren't a flashy team and don't have any highlight reel headliners on their team, but they are a bunch of blue collar hard working group of guys that their blue collar, hard working city can be proud of. Laine and Horvat had a great season and developed chemistry early, while Logan Couture became a huge piece, as expected after a really slow start to the season. The Oilers head into Free Agency with everyone under contract, which is really crazy, but hope to add to their defensive core to try to get them to the next level.
After such a long season of battling to stay atop the ultra competitive Pacific Division, only to be embarrassed in the first round by the Connor McDavid led San Jose Sharks, the Oilers will look to regroup this offseason and come prepared to battle for another chance at the cup. With a strong core returning, and what may come in Free Agency and the Draft, the Oilers hope to put up more of a fight next season.
