PHILADELPHIA - It's an exciting time in the City of Brotherly Love as they have announced that the team has signed interim GM Josh Sales to a full-time General Manager contract.
Some pundits may be confused by the move, considering that GM Josh has had 0 prior hockey experience. He was discovered by the club at a team breakfast where he performed a wonderful unsolicited magician routine.
"It was pretty cool," third string goaltender Jonathan Quick told reporters.
"I didn't like it at all," said forward Alex Chiasson, who ended up being dealt to Montreal in GM Sales' first trade, which I am sure was unrelated to those comments. The player who came the other way, Radek Faksa, is said to be a big Criss Angel fan.
When asked if he was happy to be giving up his career as a magician to become head General Manager of the NHL's Philadelphia Flyers, Sales said: "Meh, I see it as more of a lateral move. We'll see."
Although the team is in a rebuilding phase and will be missing the upcoming Stanley Cup Playoffs, the future is bright.
"I expect us to be competitive sooner than many people realize. We have a lot of good pieces but we need to eliminate some dead weight."
Now that trading season is open, expect the Flyers to be busy, but do not expect them to be trading any star players, although Sales fully expects the sharks to circle the waters.
Jack Eichel and Quinn Hughes are expected to get the most love, but they are two cornerstone pieces of the club and won't be moving unless another team is willing to severely overpay.
If a team needs a goaltender, you may be in luck, as Philly has three who could all play big minutes for a team and the dream would be to send one (or more) away.
"Defense is very important to me, which explains the Chiasson for Faksa trade, and we will be looking to improve our backend if possible. If a deal is there, great, however, we are not going to be trading for the sake of trading."
If I was a fan of the Philadelphia Flyers, I would have a lot of confidence in this new magician regime, who also took time to endorse his coach Alain Vigneault.
"Alain is my guy!"
Should be an exciting time in Pennsylvania, and I for one can't wait to see how this turns out.
