PFHL SKILLS COMPETITION (Deuxième partie) french for Charles!
After a brief intermission of signing autographs, getting some fluids into their bodies the teams got back at it!
Event #5-
Hardest Shot Competition- no explanation needed we’ve all seen it!
Up first W- Samuel Girard who lays into one that sails high into top of the net. A very uninspiring 94.8 mph just like the team he plays for!!
The E-Aaron Ekblad steps into one and registers 98.9 mph and takes over first.
Our third shooter is W- Roman Josi who clocks a 101.4 mph, followed by the E- Alex Pietrangelo who barely beats him with 101.6.
W- Mark Stone with his first shot and he registers 99.2.
E- Alex Ovechkin takes a 3 stride wind up and shatters his stick with the puck missing the net. No reading on the radar. Ovechkin disappears down the hallway to find himself a new cue!
Girard’s second attempt, again uninspiring like his GM ! , Ekblad 2nd is slightly slower then his first at 98.8.
Roman Josi steps up for his last attempt and fires a 105.6. The last thing we saw move that fast was his GM chasing singles on the Barracuda stage!!
The E- Alex Pietrangelo and W- Mark Stone each hit the 102 mark but that still leaves Josi well in first.
The crowd looks for Ovechkin and he emerges from the bench area with what looks like a doctor. Wes McCauley goes over to talk to him and doctor then skates to center ice.
“We have an injury on the play to the great #8, he will be allowed a substitute shooter. He can choose his replacement.
From far end of the ice out skates the big man. In his final (guest) appearance of his career Zdeno Chara! The crowd goes wild as Chara skates up and with one thunderous clap of the mighty stick pulls off a 107.9 mph shot to reclaim his title as hardest shot.
East wins (thanks to the west’s Chara) .
Event #6
Goaltender Empty Net contest:
A player dumps the puck in on the goaltender from center then rushes towards him. Each tender has 10 tries to see how many goals they can score at far end.
E- Rask goes first and with Weegar, Klefbom, Barkov alternating rushing in on him manages only to get 1 into the net at far end.
W- Francouz manages to net 2 as does E- Swayman. Oettinger the breakaway winner gets 4.
That leaves Vasilevsky who has Kadri, Marner and Rantanen rushing in at him. Vasilevsky scores a half a dozen into the far net.
Next up is Smith, after the first two McAvoy and Burakovsky dump in beat him for goals he finally gets on track and reels off 5 of next 7. On his last shot to tie E- Leon Draisaitl shows great hand eye coordination knocking the puck out of mid air and spoils his attempt to tie.
Winner E- Vasilevsky.
Hey not all skills competitions are great, just like not all teams are great. Right Jussi?
Event # 7
Moving Accuracy Target Competition:
If you every watched the QB at football skills competition throw and hit targets downfield this is the same idea. Moving targets that the 6 competitors have 2 minutes to hit as many as they can. Some are along the ice, some are up in the air, some could be moving baskets to fire the puck into.
The W- Oscar Klefbom went first and struggled out of the gate, he missed moving targets and could muster only one target in the two minutes. Overheard from at least 1 GM in attendance” His timing is about as good as Corey and Scott’s”
After watching Klefbom debacle we witnessed a game within the game. Stamkos, Pettersson and Ekman-Larsson had a three person Rock -Paper-Scissor game to see who went next. Pettersson won and quipped “who wouldn’t want to follow that, can’t help but look good! “ Pettersson would reel off 9 targets in 2 minutes.
Next up big W- Evgeni Malkin, like he has all season long for Chicago he too yput up impressive numbers hitting 11 targets!!
The E-Ekman-Larsson shot an impressive 9, before the last W- player would shoot, Mackenzie Weegar!
Weegar was absolutely on fire, nailing 14 targets to take the league.
The only player left to shoot was Steven Stamkos, he needed 14 to tie and 15 to win. Stamkos started off on fire, but then went cold just like his Sabres team! With less then ten seconds left he missed a close target to tie and fell just short!
Unlikely hero Mackenzie Weegar was mobbed by his teammates as W guaranteed themselves a tie with 4 comps to 3.
Event # 8
Dodgeball: 5 member team fire rubber balls about the size of softball with their sticks at each other, all other dodgeball rules apply
Team East- Ovechkin (back from fake injury), Gourde, McAvoy, Coleman , & Boeser
Team West- Matthews, Kadri, Marner, McDavid & Horvat ( all guys I’d like to fire a ball at, well maybe not Horvat)
Wes McCauley blew the whistle and the game started and there were more balls flying around then a Ron Jeremy porn film!!
First out was Marner who was hit by McAvoy, Marner was use to an early exit courtesy of Mcavoy Bruins Teams.
Team West bounced back taking out Coleman, then Boeser and Mcavoy . They had a 4-2 advantage.
Gourde made a huge hit knocking out Kadri (every players dream to knock out that mouthpiece)!
Ovechkin was caught in no mans land chasing a ball and before he could get his stick on it Horvat took him out.
It came down to Matthews , McDavid and Horvat against Gourde . A David and Goliath scenario or a Wes Hurricane vs Tylers Blackhawks game!
Matthews and McDavid both fired off shots, but Gourde ducked out of the way. Horvat fired a third shot which Gourde made an incredible catch on knocking Horvat out and allowing Ovechkin to return. Matthews fired another one hitting Gourde, first thing he hit all night!!
Matthews, McDavid against Ovechkin! McDavid took a shot and missed, Ovechkin returning the ball for the knockout. Matthews came at Ovechkin and fired off couple more shots missing both before Ovechkin launched one off Matthews nogging knocking that silly grin off his face !
East Wins and the All-Star Competition ended in a tie 4-4.
The fans go home witnessing a unique Skills Competition. Jaromir goes home with a blonde, brunette and redhead!!
After a brief intermission of signing autographs, getting some fluids into their bodies the teams got back at it!
