Canucks GM Aaron Sanderson surprised many today, especially himself, when he elected to use both the 9th, and 56th overall dispersal selections to choose two 23 years young defenders. "Yeah, I knew we wanted Fox in round 1. We had Barkov, and the other usual suspects like McDavid etc. ranked higher than him, but we were thrilled that he made it to 9th. That will give us the financial space needed to fill the rest of the team, and we know Adam is more than happy to remain underpaid for years to come!"...Mused GM Sanderson. "Girard... Now, that was a bit rushed. We are thrilled to have him though, very thrilled. We had planned on taking a forward in round 2, but our entire forwards list was decimated and already picked, so we are putting out hat into the Girard ring right now, and believe in him and Adam to be the defensemen of the future not just in Vancouver, but the entire PFHL!" Fox and Girard join non-dispersal defender Olli Joulevi on Vancouver's blueline, and, should they stay together, will form the backbone of the Canucks' D for potentially the next 8 years. The Canucks also added superstar offensive winger Patrick Kane up front early in the 3rd round, to give them a bit of a punch in front of the net.
